Updates on the life of the INSME Network

Connect, Discuss and Turn Ideas into Action: launch of the new INSMEAcademy!

INSME is delighted to announce the opening of the INSMEAcademy, a new webinar-based training program on relevant topics concerning Innovation, Creativity, Strategic Partnerships and  Entrepreneurial Spirit.

All webinars will be held at lunch time and each session will have a duration of 60 minutes including a 10 minutes Questions&Answers Session.

All participants have the possibility to take advantage of a free “Expert-talk”-Session, held during the following two weeks of the seminar to raise questions, find solutions and share good practices.

Webinars are open to everybody, upon registration, on a fee basis.
INSME full members participate free of charge.

The first session of the INSMEAcademy will be held on the 27th of March 2013, from 1 pm to 2 pm Italian Time (CET).

The topic will be "The social media based innovative services: the new value creation drivers" and the seminar will be given by Mr. Aleardo Furlani, CEO of Innova (INSME Board Member).

INSME-CEPAS International workshop on Informal Competences

CEPAS logo The first international workshop co-organised by INSME and CEPAS (INSME Member), with the title "Leverage your Informal Competences: The Challenge of Interpersonal and Inter-functional Skills Management"  will take place in Rome on the 8th of April 2013.

The workshop aims at transfering knowledge and tools on non-formal and informal competences in the field of international networking and intercultural communication.

The subjects covered by the workshop includes:

- Definition of formal vs. non-formal and informal competences;
- Radar of competences;
- Definition of proper balance of competences;
- The Goal Oriented Project Planning Methodology (GOPP);
- Effective and efficient communication methodologies;
- International standard ISO/IEC 17024:2012.

Business Angels Europe: new European Confederation for Angel Investing, co-founded by IBAN

On the  9thof January 2013 AEBAN (Spain), Business Angels netzwerk Deutschland (Germany), BAN Netherlands, BeBAN (Belgium), France Angels and IBAN (Italy – INSME Member), have signed the founding act of Business Angels Europe (BAE) – the European Confederation of Angel Investing, based in Brussels, Belgium.

BAE's strategic goals are:

- to offer the business angel communities across Europe the opportunity to benefit from a strong coordinated voice to represent them to the European institutions;
- to support the development of a favourable fiscal, regulatory and policy environment for the growth of the business angel market across Europe;
- to encourage and enable the growth of national federations and trade associations across Europe;
- to promote professional and ethical standards and best practice among the business angel community including the exchange of experience;
- to be the resource of knowledge, experience and intelligence on the European angel market;
- to encourage the growth of cross-border investment at European and international level;
- to act as the key interface with the global angel community level.

Philippe Gluntz, President of France Angels,  has been elected as President of BAE.
Luigi Amati of Meta-Group (INSME Member) is in charge for Policy Affairs.

WIPO: Summer School on Intellectual Property

WIPO logoThe Summer School program, organized by WIPO (INSME Member) in cooperation with its institutional Partners, provides an intersting opportunity to senior students and young professionals to acquire deeper knowledge of IP to gain an appreciation of IP as a tool for economic, social, cultural and technological development and to understand the role WIPO plays in the global administration of IP.

A certificate of participation is awarded to participants who successfully complete the program requirements.

UN: Sustainable Development Goals Open Working Group

UN logoThe Open Working Group (OWG) was established on the 22nd of January 2013 by the decision of the General Assembly of the United Nations and is tasked with preparing a proposal on the sustainable development goals (SDGs) as second step after the United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development (Rio+20), held in Rio de Janeiro in June 2012.

The goals should address in a balanced way all three dimensions of sustainable development and be coherent with and integrated into the UN development agenda beyond 2015.

EU: Entrepreneurship 2020 Action Plan

EUThe European Commission drew up the “Entrepreneurship 2020 Action Plan” a blueprint for decisive action to unleash Europe's entrepreneurial potential and to revolutionize the culture of entrepreneurship in Europe.

The Action Plan proposes three main areas of immediate intervention aiming at enhancing entrepreneurial education and training to support growth and business creation; strengthening framework conditions for entrepreneurs by removing existing structural barriers and supporting them in crucial phases of the business lifecycle;  dynamising the culture of entrepreneurship in Europe in order to nurture the new generation of entrepreneurs.

Experts for Horizon 2020 Advisory Groups: Call for expressions of interest

EU logoThe European Commission is searching for experts from all fields to participate in shaping the agenda of Horizon 2020, the European Union's future funding programme for research and innovation.

The Commission services plan to set up a certain number of Advisory Groups covering the Societal Challenges and other specific objectives of Horizon 2020; for this reason the Commission is calling for expressions of interest with the aim of creating lists of high level experts that will participate in each of these groups.

The call for expressions of interest will stay open for the lifetime of the Horizon 2020 programme. Experts can register at any time; however only those having expressed their interest no later than the 6th of March 2013 at 17.00, Brussels local time (CET) will be taken into account for the setting up of the first Horizon 2020 Advisory Groups.

New EU call for researchers


EU logoA selection procedure for fixed-term positions has been launched by the European Commission to set up a database of over 3000 successful candidates with a research background. They will be placed on a reserve list and called for interview according to the needs of the services.

The selection addresses researchers in the following areas: Natural sciences, Quantitative sciences, Human and Social sciences, Agricultural, Environmental and Earth sciences and Health sciences.

Registration is available via the EPSO website until the 1st of March 2013 (12:00 CET).

Millennium Technology Prize

Millenium Tech. PrizeThe search for the next Millennium Technology Prize Laureates is on!

The nomination period for the sixth Millennium Technology Prize – organized by the Technology Academy Finlandhas been launched  on the 14th of January 2013 and will remain  open until the 31st of July 2013.

Nominations are sought from universities, academies, research institutes and industrial organizations based all over the world. Every eligible organization has the opportunity to nominate candidates from every fields of technology except for military technology.

The Winners of the Millennium Technology Prize will receive a trophy carrying the name "Peak".

EU Gateway to Japan and Korea

The EU-financed initiative "EU Gateway to Japan and Korea" is helping European companies explore their market potential and build their business in Japan and Korea.

Offering financial, strategic and logistical support, EU Gateway to Japan and Korea organises up to six business missions per year in high-technology and design sectors.

During their one-week stay in Japan or Korea, participants exhibit their products to a hand-picked Japanese audience and discuss with potential business partners in pre-arranged individual meetings. Briefings as well as studies on the local business culture and market opportunities ensure that the participants are well prepared. A study tour and a networking reception complete the busy schedule.

Applications are currently open for business missions both to Japan and Korea.

Seventh Community Innovation Survey: Highest proportions of innovative enterprises in Germany, Luxembourg and Belgium

Eurostat logoThe Eurostat, the statistical office of the European Union, published the Community Innovation Survey 2012, providing a wide set of indicators on product and process innovation as well as organizational and marketing innovation and offering for the first time information on skills and creativity. Among the 27 Member States, the highest proportion of innovative enterprises were recorded in Germany, Luxembourg and Belgium with respectively a 79%, 68% and 61% of enterprises.

Innovating for Sustainability

In 2012 the Leadership Council of the Network for Business Sustainability – NBS (INSME Member) started a research on innovating for sustainability, whose results are now published in a Systematic Review and an Executive Report.

The Systematic Review aims to be one of the most comprehensive and credible evidence to date on innovating for sustainability and highlights “how-to” case studies from large and small leading organizations.

The Executive Report intends to answer the question: "What innovation activities help companies become sustainable?", by providing a framework for assessing which stage of the sustainability journey your organization currently occupies, 38 practices for fostering innovation at each stage and case studies that are actively finding innovative ways to serve people, profits and planet.

Doing Business 2013 - Smarter Regulations for Small and Medium-Size Enterprises

"Doing Business 2013: Smarter Regulations for Small and Medium-Size Enterprises" gives an overview of regulations affecting domestic firms in 185 economies and ranks the economies in 10 areas of business regulation, such as starting a business, resolving insolvency and trading across borders.

The 2013 year's report covers regulations measured from June 2011 to May 2012. 

According to these data, Poland was the global top improver in the past year and Singapore topped the global ranking on the ease of doing business for the seventh consecutive year, followed by Hong Kong SAR, China, New Zealand, the United States and Denmark.

OECD International Business Dialogue 2013: Barriers to 21st Century Commerce
OECD Conference Centre, Paris – France

The OECD will hold an International Business Dialogue on the theme of Barriers to 21st Century Commerce.

The main objective of the workshop is to bring together  representatives from firms across sectors and regions to identify and prioritize barriers to international business activity. In particular, the event aims at providing a platform to companies to share hands-on experience in international markets with representatives of both the OECD and its members' trade ministries – and identify the most urgent obstacles to international commerce before, at, and beyond the border.
