Nearly 180 participants, among which Mrs. Leena Zittling (INSME Board Member ) in representation of INSME, from 27 Countries attended to the EPISIS (European policies and instruments to support innovation in services) Conference 2012 in Helsinki on 4th -5th June 2012 on "Positive impacts of Service Innovation - from intangible investments to emerging industries and ecosystems".
The two days conference were focused on discussions and debates on the latest trends and developments within the area of Service innovation. The key question of the conference was how to get tangible results from intangible service innovation, and how service innovation can help to fuel recovery and growth in Europe.
Mr. Sakri Viklund - EPROCA Acting President (Sweden), Mrs. Leena Zittling - INSME Board Member, Dr. Reinhard Buscher - Head of Unit for Support for Innovation, European Commission - Directorate General for Enterprise and Industry,
It was highlighted that service innovation is a phenomenon that cuts horizontally across the whole economy. Service innovation can create new business opportunities for companies from very different background and can therefore facilitate the transformation and renewal of industries, networks and clusters as a whole.
Service innovation is, first and foremost, non-technological. The integration of services and technology is important for the development of service innovation, but the driver for innovation is not the technological solution as such, but the value it can create both for the service provider and the customer.
EPISIS is a project under the PRO-INNO Europe initiative of the Directorate General for Enterprise and Industry, it lasts three years (2009 - 2012) and the overall budget is 3M€.
