"INSMEnews" is the free monthly newsletter edited since 2004 by the INSME Association Secretariat to stay updated about the activities of the International Network for SMEs, its Members and Partners worldwide. INSME aims to promote transnational cooperation among private and public stakeholders to make innovation happen in SMEs.

"INSMEnews" is available in English, Spanish and Russian. Sponsors and Promoters to translate this newsletter into other languages are welcome among INSME Members, international Partners and Third Parties.

Updates on the life of the INSME Network

INSME Vice President to join the 8th WTA Hi-tech Fair in Daejeon

INSME Vice President, Dr. Raimund Broechler, will attend as speaker the 8th High Tech Fair on "Fusion Technology as New Growth Engine" to be held from 16thto 18th November 2011 in Daejeon, Republic of Korea, organised by WTA –Worls Technopolis Association (INSME Member) and Daejeon Metropolitan City.

Dr. Broechler will be lecturer in Session 3 focused on "University-Industry-Research Coooperation in the STP (Science and Technology Park)".

INSME increases its global outreach

The INSME Association is glad to announce that the following organization has recently joined the network:

- NASME (Gombe State), the Nigerian Association for SMEs, based in Nigeria

At present, the INSME Association gathers 81 Members in 34 countries in 4 continents around the world and it is increasing its presence in Africa.

INSME Board member joins EC Workshop on knowledge transfer in Italy

On the 30th September 2011 in Rome (Italy), the INSME Board Member, Mr. Andrea Di Anselmo, from META Group D.o.o., attended as panelist the "Italian Expert Workshop on Intellectual Property Management at Universities and Public Research Institutes".

The event was part of a workshop series covering 39 European countries in 2011 and 2012. It took place in co-location with the ProTon Europe 9th Annual Conference.

This workshop supports the implementation of the European Commission's 2008 Recommendation on the management of IP in knowledge transfer activities and Code of Practice for universities and public research organisations.

Preparation for the INSME Annual Meeting 2012

The INSME Association is pleased to announce that the 8th INSME Annual Meeting on "Innovation across borders: building competitive nations through SMEs networks" will be held in Daejeon, Republic of Korea on May 21-24 2012.

The event will be co-hosted by World Technopolis Association - WTA, Daejeon Metropolitan City, Innobiz Association and Daejeon Convention Center.

ANIMA Investment Network: Sustainable Responsible Investing (SRI) in the Mediterranean

Following the MedAcademy seminar "Project Appraisal: How to promote sustainable investments in the Mediterranean?" (31 May and 1 June 2011 in Casablanca, Morocco) under the EU-funded Invest in Med programme, ANIMA Investment Network launched an initiative for sustainable responsible investing (SRI) in the Mediterranean.

The action plan defined after the two-day experience sharing seminar includes several studies and an awareness campaign for public authorities and companies operating in the MED countries.

INSME Partner of the International Small Business Congress 2012 "Fostering Small Business in New and High-Potential Industries Worldwide"

The INSME Association is honored to be among the international partners of the ISBC 2012 - International Small Business Congress on "Fostering Small Business in New and High-Potential Industries Worldwide", co-organized by Osiba Research CC (INSME Member).

EU: FP7 Call Research for the Benefit of SMEs

Organiser: European Commission

Applicants (Minimun condition): At least 3 independent legal entities, eachof which is established in a Member State (MS) or Associate Country (AC), and no 2 of which are established in the same MS or AC. They can be SMEs and RTD performers (universities, research organisations and industrial companies, including research performing SMEs). Furthermore , even if SMEs have to keep a predominant role in the consortium, other enterprises and end-users may participate by making a particular contribution to the project and in addressing specific needs of the SME participants involved.

Aim: strengthening the innovation capacity of European SMEs and their contribution to the development of new technology based products and markets by helping them outsource research, increase their research efforts, extend their networks, better exploit research results and acquire technological know how, bridging the gap in the innovation chain from idea to market through European level collaboration.

Estimated Total Budget (for the 2012 work programme): 219,7 MEuros

Deadline: 6th December 2011

Publications

WEF: The Global Competitiveness Report 2011-2012

The Global Competitiveness Report 2011–2012, published by the World Economic Forum (WEF) within the framework of the Centre for Global Competitiveness and Performance, features a detailed index that ranks 142 countries and analyzes broader trends in the global economy.

The results show that while competitiveness in advanced economies has stagnated over the past seven years, in many emerging markets it has improved, placing their growth on a more stable footing and mirroring the shift in economic activity from advanced to emerging economies.

EU/Eurostat: Key figures on European business with a special feature on SMEs

This publication aims to illustrate the wide range of business statistics available from Eurostat, in particular structural business statistics (SBS).The study, prepared by Eurostat Unit, constitutes a summary and a general overview of the structural business statistics available, collected on an annual basis. It consists of three main chapters: a feature on small and medium- sized enterprises; an overview of the EU business economy; a more detailed sectorial analysis.
