After a short summer break “INSMEnews”, the free monthly newsletter edited since 2004 by the INSME Association Secretariat, will continue to provide you with updates about the activities of the International Network for SMEs, its Members and Partners worldwide. INSME aims to promote transnational cooperation among private and public stakeholders to make innovation happen in SMEs.

“INSMEnews” is available in English, Spanish and Russian. Sponsors and promoters to translate this newsletter into other languages are warmly welcome among INSME Members, international partners and third parties.

We welcome contributions, comments and suggestions that can enrich this newsletter and improve our ongoing work, with the aim to support innovation intermediaries, their networking and internationalisation so as to better reach SMEs worldwide.

Updates on the life of the INSME Network

INSME President at the UNECE International Conference "Promoting Eco-innovation: Policies and Opportunities"

The International Conference "Promoting Eco-innovation: Policies and Opportunities", organised by UNECE - United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (INSME Member), took place on 11th -13th July 2011 in Tel Aviv (Israel).

The Conference represented a platform for a discussion and broad exchange of experiences and lessons learned among policy-makers, representatives of business and academia and other experts and practitioners from across Europe.

The event dealt with the role played by innovation policies to address environmental and energy challenges, the existing barriers for eco-innovation and the ways in which the public and private sectors can collaborate to overcome these difficulties and take advantage of emerging opportunities in this field.

The INSME President, Mr. Paolo Anselmo, attended the event as speaker.

META Group: Innovation Lab

On the 30th September 2011 in Brussels, Belgium will take place the workshop "Ready to Use" Venture Capital Funds. How to set up and launch financial engineering measures using ERDF (European Regional Development Fund).

The event is being organised by META Group within the framework of its Innovation Lab initiative, and it is addressed to civil servants and innovation intermediary company managers, for disseminating innovative tools and management tips in the domains of Entrepreneurship, Finance, Technology transfer and Clustering.

INSME's Picks in the News

EU: Horizon 2020

"Horizon 2020", the Framework Programme for Research and Innovation for the period 2014-2020, is the new, integrated funding system that will cover all research and innovation funding currently provided through the Framework Programme for Research and Technical Development, the Competitiveness and Innovation Framework Programme (CIP) and the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT).

It will be the successor to FP7 and will support researchers and innovators in Europe to help ensure that good ideas reach the market and generate sustainable economic growth and new jobs.

Horizon 2020, worth € 80 Billion, will enter into force on 1st January 2014

10th European Eco-innovation Forum: outreaches

The 10th European Forum on Eco-Innovation Towards a Resource-Efficient Economy- from Policy to Action, organized by the European Commission and ETAP - Environmental Technology Action Plan on 22nd -23rd March 2011 in Birmingham (UK), brought together players in business, academia, finance, policy and green groups with a view to propose priority areas for future action on material security and resource efficiency and play a key part in securing research through Research Councils and EU calls.

China IPR SME Helpdesk: Guide to IPR Protection in China for the Creative Industries

China IPR SME Help Desk (INSME Partner) published a guide to help creative industries to protect themselves from infringement by potential Chinese clients or Chinese competitors. As creative ideas and designs are often not adequately protected, this guide aims to provide information on the Intellectual Property (IP) issues faced by creative businesses in various sub-sectors of the creative industry in China including architectural design, product design, graphic design, web-design, brand design, etc.

VINASME - Vietnam Association of SMEs

The Vietnam Association of Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (VINASME) is a non profit association established in 2005 in Hanoi with a view to improve the SMEs’ managers knowledge, to make network for business people and to enhance International cooperation and policy advocacy. The Association provides training, consulting, technology transfer and trade promotion services throughout workshop, training class, exhibition and international study visit.

VINASME is an INSME Member since June 2011.

Furthermore the proposal must target only one country covered in the Areas of the call (Australia, Brazil, China, India, New Zealand, Russia, South Africa, South-Korea, USA, Argentina, Chile, Jordan, Mexico, Morocco, Ukraine), the consortium must include participants from the country targeted in the proposal and the proposals must cover more than one thematic area of the Cooperation Programme.

Applicants: Public and Private bodies, Individuals, Non profit Organisation and Research Organisation based in a European Member State or in an Associate Country.

Budget: € 16,000,000.00

Western Internationalisation Network Atlantic - WIN Atlantic

Western Internationalisation Network Atlantic (WIN Atlantic) is a three year project, started on January 2009, which offers new internationalisation opportunities for Atlantic Area businesses.
It aims at creating networks of Innovative Start Ups and Small to Medium Enterprises within the following three target sectors: ICT, biotechnology and energy/environment, and help them promote their goods and services across international markets.
