Dear INSMEnews Readers,
we are delighted to share with you the successful outcome of the First INSME Association Annual Meeting, held in Barcelona (Spain) from April 13 to 15, 2005.
First of all, we express our satisfaction to have improved the level of participation in our event in terms of quantity and quality: compared to our 2004 3-day INSME Meeting in Malmö (Sweden), which was attended by around 70 delegates from 23 countries (mainly from Europe), participation in Barcelona this year has increased considerably and representation from every world region has been achieved.
As a matter of fact, about 200 representatives of renowned public and private organisations operating in the field of SMEs, innovation and technology transfer from 35 countries gathered this year at the World Trade Center, including 25 high level speakers, among whom ministers, undersecretaries and successful entrepreneurs. This confirms that SME competitiveness and innovation related issues are on the top of the agenda of policy makers and businessmen around the world. It was a good opportunity to share views and good practices on how innovation in SMEs can be supported in order to help them cope with international competition.
The Conference gave to Members and non-Members a chance to better understand the importance of being part of a transnational network like INSME, whose mission is fostering innovation and technological transfer in all regional areas, with attention to both low and high tech sectors and in particular enhancing the importance of North-South collaboration.
During the first INSME General Assembly the new INSME governing bodies were appointed, former Board Members were confirmed and we are pleased to introduce to you our new Board Members:
- Mrs. Mara Callejn of the Spanish Ministry of Industry, Tourism and Trade as President of the INSME Association;
- Mr. Yohanan Levy (ISMEA, Israel) and Mr. Velimir Vukadin (SASME, Serbia) as Vice-Presidents;
- Taking seat for the first time on the INSME Board are also Dr. Serge Golovanov (GOLEM, Austria); Mr. Farooq Sobhan (BEI, Bangladesh); Dr. Gui Liang (INNOFUND, China).
Let me once again express my gratitude to the co-hosts and the participants who contributed to making the First INSME Association Annual Meeting a great success. Thanks to all of them for their trust, for the fruitful discussions and good spirit! We hope that everybody learnt and gained something from this meeting and made beneficial bilateral contacts to be developed from now on and with a view to exchanging more ideas and results at the 2006 INSME Annual Meeting.
Last but not least, thanks to all INSME Members for appointing me again as INSME Secretary General for the 2005-2006 mandate. I will do my best to keep up with your expectations!
Looking forward to working together and to "making innovation happen",
Ms. Simona Marzetti INSME Association Secretary General

Bilateral meetings between Italy and Australia promoted through INSME |
|
|
|
An Australian-Italian collaboration is being created with the Australian Industry Group (Ai Group), an INSME Full Member, in the area of innovation in the textiles sector. This collaboration foresees the organisation of a tour (in late 2005) for an Australian delegation to get to know the Italian Textile Industrial Districts.
Related meetings with relevant public and private bodies will also be set up so as to create concrete outcomes and ongoing benefits. In the lead up to this mission various organisational meetings have taken place, one with Mr. Tony Pensabene, Ai Gorup representative, in Barcelona on the occasion of the INSME Annual Meeting, the second meeting in Biella, Italy with the Australian Ambassador to Italy, Peter Woolcott and high level representatives of the Biellese district and textile industry (including the Biellese Industrial Union and textile research bodies). This second meeting was held on the 21st of April at the Comune of Biella hosted by the Mayor of Biella Vittorio Barazzotto on the occasion of the inauguration of the annual exhibition On the Wool Thread (Sul Filo Della Lana) and provided the opportunity for the Ambassador and representatives from the INSME Secretariat and IPI (INSME Sustaining Member) Carla Fritz and Anilkumar Dave to get a clear picture of the current situation and needs of the area so as to enable a clear focus for the Australian-Italian collaboration.
